The first half of 2014 had many big star films including Rajini's
Kochadaiiyaan, Vijay's Jilla and Ajith's Veeram. Among the three,
Kochadaiiyaan is not a hit due to its big budget while Veeram and Jilla
failed to achieve hit status due to the the 30% entertainment tax. When
small films like Mundasupatti, Thegidi, Golisoda and Manjapai are
becoming hits, Tamil Nadu trade circle needed a big hit from a top star.
Now
Dhanush's VIP has grossed nearly 14 crores in Tamil Nadu box office and
turning out to be the first big hit among big star movies. The trade is
extremely happy with Velai Illa Pattadhari's performance, the film is
also doing good business in overseas and breaking all the previous
records of Dhanush.
